Gospel Community Training

As we continue to settle into our identity as North our elders are wisely looking at every aspect of what we do as a church and why we do it that way. We want to ensure that we are being faithful to Jesus in what He is specifically asking us to do as a church here in Albuquerque. Our vision is to see Jesus preeminent in everything. Our mission is to grow together as disciples as we go together to make disciples of neighbors and nations. The primary avenue we have to live this out is through Community Groups, where we engage in our day to day with gospel intentionality.

At the beginning of this year our elders asked a group of us to take a step back and fully assess our Community Group ministry. We took our time looking at scripture while asking God to show us what His vision is for His people living in community and on mission as disciples of Jesus. We spent a lot of time in prayer and discussion, asking for lots of feedback from current and prior leaders as to what had been going well and what was not going well within our existing community group structure. We also wanted to make sure that what we were doing was contextualized to the uniqueness of our city. We then looked outside to other churches that we thought had healthy community structures to see what systems were proving most helpful. We brought all of this data, time, and prayer together to create a new community group structure for North that we hope will be a blessing to our church and enable our community group members to most effectively love and serve our neighbors and our city with the gospel.

Our new system has been beta-tested in a few different groups throughout the summer and has proved to be effective in assisting those groups to live faithfully as disciples of Jesus within our context. With the full approval of our elders we are excited to implement this new structure at North. There will be trainings hosted over the next three weeks to introduce this new structure, answer questions, as well as equip our church body to reach out and share the Gospel with those within our spheres of influence and with our city. This is not a training just for leaders—we invite everyone who is involved with or interested in community at North to join us. We pray that this will be a fruitful time together and will help us start out on a strong foot when we relaunch community groups in the Fall.

The trainings will run for three weeks on Mondays and Thursdays (choose which day works better for you—the same content will be presented) and childcare will be provided! We look forward to seeing you all next week.
