Vision defines who we are. We are a people who exist to see a different future. Our mission describes what we do so that our vision becomes reality. And values determine how we do what we do. At North Church, we have six values: proclamation, prayer, participation, peace, partnership and purpose.
Participation. We believe that everyone in the church should play a role in Jesus’ mission. Our mission at North Church is growing together as disciples and going together to make disciples of neighbors and nations. This comes to us directly from Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20). His mission is foundational in all that we are and everything that we do. Everyone who calls North Church home has an important role to play in Jesus’ plan.
There are impressive things we all do. We refer to these things as natural talents. Skills we are born with or have picked up and developed over the years. But the bible informs us that as followers of Jesus, there are things we do that are supernatural. Gifts that we have received by being born again.
The bible states:
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
(1 Corinthians 12:4-7 ESV)
There is diversity. Various gifts, services and activities are continually evident in the church. All members actively serve each other in different ways. And there is unity. One God actively achieves His one purpose for the common good of His one people. We grow up together as disciples when we serve each other according to our spiritual gifts. And we also go out together as disciples to make disciples.
Ministry is a team sport. Mission is a community project. Every member has an important role to play. Everyone serves. And everyone benefits when everyone serves. We want North Church members to find and flourish in their roles. And as they do so, our mission will be fruitful.
