2 Ways to Pray for Spain
I said goodbye to the North Church team headed to Spain at the Sunport last week. They will be gone for almost two weeks as they explore opportunities to start new churches. Team members were filled with both anticipation and anxiety just before they left. We prayed together. Then, as they made their way to the TSA lines, I said one last time, “we will pray for you”. Here are two ways we can pray for our team in Spain this week.
Pray for Open Arms
The Apostle Paul was all about mission. He devoted his life to telling people about Jesus who had never heard of him before. He started new churches all over the New Testament world. And when he wrote to a church he had yet to visit, he said this, “For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both your’s and mine.” (Romans 1:11-12).
We aren’t sending a team to Spain to correct or complete the churches that are already there and on mission with Jesus. Instead, we want to support them and join in the good work that is already going on. Please pray that our team would be received with open arms. Pray that we would encourage and be encouraged by our Spanish brothers and sisters. We have much to learn. We have many to love.
Pray for Open Doors
The Apostle Paul also asked for prayer for his mission efforts this way, “At the same time, pray for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, “ (Colossians 4:3). God must open doors for gospel opportunities to become realities.
Let’s pray the same for North Church in Spain. Pray that a door would be wide open to preach Jesus and plant churches. Pray that the team in Spain from North would receive clarity from the Holy Spirit and confirmation from the church. The task is far too big for us. So let’s get help from our Great God.
